Hays have proved to be a valuable support in our training of staff in safeguarding issues. All staff complete on-line safeguarding training which covers relevant topics including FGM and PREVENT. They each receive a certificate on successful completion a copy of which is kept by themselves and a copy by our safeguarding admin officer for records. In addition a representative from HAYS comes in to school to explain the training programme to new staff and provide a technical support service as they complete the training programme. We also use the safer recruitment training package for staff involved in staff recruitment including the Governing Body. I recommend the company to anyone thinking of employing an on-line safeguarding programme to complement face to face training

Thank you for introducing me to the safeguarding training package.
It is easy to access, has comprehensive coverage and has saved me much time and effort researching the various aspects of training for staff.
Most importantly I can rest assured that all staff are up to date in their understanding and that we are doing all we can to keep our children safe.
Moya Smith, Headteacher, St Joseph’s RC Primary School
I found the materials very useful . The text and information provided was relevant, clear and detailed. I particularly liked the links to the relevant documents, policies, and information from different sources. I believe the Safeguarding and Child Protection Hays training is good . I was glad to see that the 2015 resources and materials included new aspects of safeguarding /child protection.

I am writing to provide you with feedback on your Online Safeguarding Training Package. Our staff find it really useful and easy to use, especially with being able to complete the training in section – the staff also like the links to various documents. We had an Ofsted inspection in May 2012 and the Inspector was impressed with the system and the way the training was delivered. Often you find when delivering Safeguarding training people soon switch off, especially if you are delivering the same training each time. With your system this is not the case as it is ‘hands on’ and staff have to complete the online test at the end. It is also easy to see at a glance who has completed the Safeguarding training and any areas they struggled with, so the school can provide further support to them.

We decided, even before the raft of new legislation that has appeared this year, that we wanted to enhance our Safeguarding. Our improvement plan detailed a suite of initiatives and one of the key elements of this approach was to introduce Hay’s online training. It has many benefits. The modules are easy to use and based on current law and best practice. They serve both as a vehicle for CPD and a de facto library. The software is designed in such a way that it is easy for leaders to see how much time staff have spent on modules and also how well they perform in the end of module assessment. We have found it particularly useful in the induction of new staff. During our recent Ofsted the leader inspector noted that the school’s work to keep pupils safe and secure is outstanding.

Our school has been using the Hays Online Safeguarding training for three years. The uptake of the system was born out of concern for staff, volunteers and students who joined the school after the annual safeguarding training had taken place in September. The training package contains links to all updated documents.
All the school staff, governors, volunteers and students have completed the training and any new comers during the year are easy to input. I have found it easy to track the progress of individuals and identify areas they have struggled to complete and the school has then provided additional support. I have found it the most cost effective way of providing safeguarding training.
During our last Ofsted inspection the system was praised for ensuring that anyone working in the school was expected to complete the training and that it met the safeguarding training requirements.

The set up was easy and the “in year” administration is very simple. Reports are quickly accessed so I can see at a glance who has accessed and completed the training and who is experiencing difficulty in attaining the pass mark and might need more support.

This is the first year Woodfield School have used the on line safeguarding training toolkit and I have found it beneficial for staff to use to strengthen their knowledge of safeguarding. I give a briefing to all staff on an annual basis and this was an extra learning tool for staff. The training is not too long and staff have been able to undertake it when it is suitable for them, without having to leave the school. Staff have been able to print their own certificates.
I will be recommending that it is school policy for staff to use the training toolkit once a year as this is good practice and strengthens our safeguarding procedures.

The Hays Safeguarding training provides a comprehensive online training package which covers all aspects of child protection including e-safety. We have been impressed with how easy it is to administer, and staff have been able to complete the course at their own convenience. It has made safeguarding training accessible for everyone, including part-time staff and governors, and new staff can access the training as soon as they are appointed rather than having to wait for a face-to-face presentation which has to be planned in advance.
The training is informative and interactive with useful links to statutory documents. It is interspersed with short quizzes and video clips which helps to engage the user.
The package allows you to produce a clear record of everyone’s achievements and during our recent school Inspection Ofsted were able to see at a glance that all staff had received training, including dates and outcomes.
Hays staff are available by phone if you have any difficulties with set up and problems are swiftly resolved. I would recommend it to any school considering using this approach.

We have renewed our contract for use of this training; it has alleviated the whole school training session that we used to need on an annual basis, allowing us to allocate that training day to other whole school training.
As the Senior Safeguarding Officer responsible for delivering safeguarding training to all school staff, I have found the Hays Online system an extremely effective training tool. It has enabled us to expand the staff we can provide this training to, for example temporary students and volunteers. This ensures that every member of staff whether paid or voluntary, who is working with our children is Level 1 Safeguarding trained. We are a large school and therefore this system allows us to roll out this training on a regular basis without the need to block out parts of a school day.
The training provides a series of modules which can be worked through at an individual’s own pace. Throughout the training there are links to a number of useful resources which have proved invaluable to my work and keep me up to date. All staff under-take a final assessment which results in a certificate that they can print and keep for their personal development file.
Further to this, Senior staff are able to monitor training undertaken and analyse the data provided to recognise any staff who may require further 1:1 guidance.
As a school we have invested into this training tool for our second year and would definitely recommend this to other schools.
Senior Safeguarding Officer, Heald Place Primary School, Manchester
We have begun to use the on-line Safeguarding Training package produced by HAYS with all staff this academic year. We have found it to be extremely user friendly; the training itself is relevant and up to date. Any issues or questions we have had have been resolved efficiently by the HAYS support team.
The fact that the training package has a test included at the end of the modules is particularly useful, as it shows a level of understanding and competence for each member of staff completing the course.
We have recently renewed our license with HAYS for another year and plan to use the package annually with all staff from now on.
